A Diverse and Multilingual Asian Workforce
With more than 259, 277 Asian residents, the Virginia Asian workforce includes professionals from diverse Asian ethnicities who have diverse educational backgrounds from business and marketing to science. Virginia ranks 17th among the top U.S. states with the highest Asian labor force. Our workforce both professionals and para professionals can be found in diverse industries that include: finance, technology, manufacturing, legal, academia, government, business, and professional services. Asian women (2.1 percent of the total work force) reflect the most progress in attaining higher-level positions. The largest numbers of Asian women are employed in the Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing industry, as well as in some retail industries.

A Highly Skilled and Educated Workforce
In general, Virginia Asian Indians and Chinese as population groups are well-represented in the medical, technology, computer, scientific, and engineering fields. Census 2000 data shows that Filipinos are well represented in the financial and medical field, and Japanese enjoy a relatively high level of representation in the management occupations. Other Asian Pacific communities tend to be represented in other professional and semi professional skilled occupations.
