Over the past several decades, tens of thousands of new Asian immigrants have arrived in Virginia. They’ve come here for the same reason that attracted immigrants in the past: opportunity. Established Virginians are eager to welcome and learn more about these new members in their community. The newcomers enrich our schools, neighborhoods, businesses, and communities. This makes Virginia a much more interesting place to live.

WHY VIRGINIA?

Asian Americans are family oriented. They highly value education, and possess a strong entrepreneurial drive and competitive spirit. Thats why they choose Virginia as an ideal place to raise a family and send their children to schools. The overwhelming majority of Virginia Asian households consists of families – 75.1 % compared to 67.3 % for whites. We can find Asian Americans in both Virginia metropolitan areas as well as in the suburbs. Only a very small percent of Virginia Asians live in rural areas. For many Asian newcomers, the trends are that they first settle briefly elsewhere in America, but then relocate to Virginia because of family ties, economic, educational opportunities, or for other quality of life reasons such as the Commonwealth 's strong sense of history, rich natural resources, a thriving cultural environment, and the natural beauty of the state.

Virginia also has a history of active social entrepreneurship led by world class Asian orgnizations such as the Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce, with satellite offices scattered from Northern Virginia to the Hampton Roads.
