Internship Opportunity

WORK BASED LEARNING * MENTORSHIP

Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce is an award winning trade association winning Best Community Educator Award from the University of Richmond in 2024

We seek students majoring in business, economics, political sciences, management, information technology, and international studies related majors

We offer coaching during internship to increase success rates. Our apprentices learn by gaining real-life experience in legislative advocacy and domestic and global entrepreneurship and community development. Our goal is to offer on-hands experiences for students to get them ready for real life work experience

We seek motivated students with the basic qualities listed below:

A strong commitment to the organization, a great team spirits, and good listening and communication skills. Our Apprentice learns to manage important projects. They are eager to learn. They show up on time. They keep their commitment, and they adapt well in new learning environments with a great sense of professionalism. They complete projects in a timely and professional manner.

LEARNING MODULES

  • Training Apprentices earn 1 to 4 credit hours and external services hours (Optional by student)

  • They explore possible career tracts through project management

  • They gain hands-on experience working with a dynamic economic development agency

  • Obtain relationship-building opportunities with employers

  • Gain knowledge about local and state economic development practices

  • Help foster local and state Asian American entrepreneurship development

Requirements

  • Focused and committed student candidate who is disciplined and a team player

  • Hours are flexible (hours and schedules vary)

  • Hybrid - Virtual Internship program

  • Written and verbal proficiency in English and willing to learn new soft and hard skills, a must

  • Asian language command preferred, but not required.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS

Apprentice Worksite location: 

  • Hybrid year-round with event participation in your region

Apprentice Schedule:

  • Hours vary: 8-10 hours (During school year) or 25-30 hours (During Summer) 

  • Flexible work schedule Monday to Friday

  • Mentoring will be part of the internship

  • Academic credit: academic credit can be arranged

  • This intense internship earns undergraduate and graduate students from 1 - 4.00 academic credit level classes, or direct study

Apprentice Project Task Descriptions: 

Tasks will be customized for each student based on the student’s major, field interest, and ability. Most tasks are at a professional level, with focus on: data gathering, business an policy research, public relations, case management, and communications; domestic and global business marketing, event management, industry analysis, and project management
